Our trip to Salt Point State Park was amazing! The camping trip was a much needed escape from the internet, urban life and the cubicle forest.
Tortoise Shell Nursery Tour
On our way to the coast we took a tour of the Tortoise Shell Nursery.
Bill Kastrinos, gave us a tour of a few tiny homes that are being built. Bill is a genuine and sincere person and a very talented manufacturer of tiny homes. I have full confidence that he will create a beautiful tiny dream home for us.
I have to admit, downsizing to a tiny home is scary. Eventually, we can build something a little bigger (maybe a 400 square foot home), but this will be an excellent start. Life is too short to waste. I would rather take a swing and miss, versus not trying at all.
Salt Point State Park
We camped at Gerstle Cove — the campground was on a hill overlooking the ocean, trees and other scenery. The spot was peaceful and perfect. At night the ocean waves lulled us to sleep. ![]()
The weather was amazing, it was in the 60s to low 70s during the day. In the mornings and evenings, fog rolled in and kept us chilly! We wore our beanie’s and long pants during most of the trip.

We spent our days hiking all over the park, by the ocean and through the forest. During the afternoons, we took reading, knitting and napping breaks at ocean lookout points.
Wildlife
We were lucky to see a wide variety of wildlife and sea life. Some of the animals we ran across included birds (seagulls, pelicans, turkey vultures and sparrows), Harbor Seals, starfish, deer, and more.
On our hike to Fish Mill Cove we saw at least 5 to 10 star fish and the cutest Harbor Seal! He was taking a morning nap on a very large rock!
Harbor Seals were everywhere at this park. We probably saw at least 30 or more Harbor Seals during the trip. One afternoon, we saw two seals playing in the water. They were slapping their tails on the surface of the water, would dive down and then pop up again. So funny!

Coool ! You have become quite the photographer, let alone writer. What an informative site, so well laid out and upbeat, I could smell the salt water from your descriptions. Thanks for sharing your adventures. L, Rich
