Selling my wedding set…

Wedding rings

Selling a wedding set should be easy right? Well, not so much.

Selling my wedding set is turning out to be more problematic than I initially thought. More than likely, we won’t be able to sell the set for its appraised value. Go figure – there are a plethora of diamonds on the market. (Sigh…)

And gold is down 20%!

In addition, all of the jewelers I have contacted do not do consignment. The jeweler we purchased the ring from does sell on consignment. But he also takes a heavy “commission” on the sale. Plus it would be kind of awkward to have them sell it…

Another consideration to ponder…

The economy has taken a nose dive and people are selling their possessions just to make ends meet. Is it really a good market to sell a luxury good? I could keep the ring in my jewelry box and sell it when the economy bounces back. I would rather sell the wedding set now and put the money toward our tiny home.

So RowdyReaders, do you have any advice? Should I consider putting ads up on eBay, Craig’s list, or even going to a pawn shop?

Here’s my 2 cents. Wait it out. Tiny Houses are investments, and the wedding ring set is as well. I had my mother’s set appraised about 5 years ago and it didn’t appraise as much as I thought it would either. Not sure that these sets really bring on much income. But it did appraise for more than she paid for it (back in the day of course). Saw your twitter comment that the lounge went… is that the one your Rowdy Kittens love???? Are they in revolt? I love the way you’re doing this one item at a time… seems to be less pain involved that way.

Hey my friend – I have been thinking the same thing. I will probably wait on selling the rings, for now.

Especially, since the economy is so bad. Both of the rings that I currently wear belonged to my Grandmothers and they appraised at a very high value. It is the same story you have — back in the day they were a lot less expensive and now the jewels are worth a pretty penny.

Yes the chaise lounge is loved by the RowdyKittens. I don’t think they will miss it because we have put our some of our “storage buckets” under the window with blankets and pillows. I think the tiny tots will dig it. Freecycle is the best thing on the planet! http://www.freecycle.org/

The process of simplifying is hard, but since we have been doing it a little bit and at a time, it isn’t as painful. :)

Thanks for reading the blog! You rock my friend…
