Over the weekend, we submitted our tiny house wish list to Bill Kastrinos, the builder of Tortoise Shell Homes.
During our vacation, we met with Bill and toured his Tortoise Shell Nursery. We were throughly impressed with Bill’s sincerity and the quality of his team’s work — so we decided to have him build our tiny home.
Now we are waiting to hear back about a final quote. Our goal is to submit an order this winter and move into the tiny home in January 2009. But if L is still in school the building date will be pushed back to spring.
You are probably wondering where we are going to park the tiny tiny home. The parking situation is still not decided, although a few leads have popped up. We want to stay in mid-town Sacramento, but that could be challenging. So…moving out toward the burbs is a consideration.
If all else fails we can park the home on the ranch as an interim solution. Commuting to work would be a problem at the ranch, so if we went that route it would end up being a tiny vacation home. Something will work out.
The only other concern is figuring out where we are going to put the litter box…

So I’m really curious as to which floor plan the two of you decided on. Let me know.
Hey girlie – we picked model 3. I will forward you the email we sent Bill. There are a lot of modifications we requested — I can’t wait for the tiny tiny home.
I’m really diggin these tiny houses! I’m amazed at the simplicity of it but that it’s still functional. My whole mindset is starting to change…for the better!
The idea of creating a co-housing community of tiny houses is so great – we have been discussing this for some time. Have a look here:
http://www.tinyhousedesign.com/2008/09/09/tiny-house-village-design-concept-part-3/ and here http://www.tinyhousedesign.com/tag/tiny-home/ for some ideas that are well thought out on the subject.
We like many of the co-housing concepts and appreciate the tiny house idea – why not combine the two? We want to travel several months a year, but still want chickens, a big garden, etc.
Thanks for leaving a comment Stan.
I’d love to get involved with some type co-housing community. We have looked into some options, but haven’t found anything in this area. I’ll check out the links you posted. Thanks again!
