Oprah’s Simplicity Show

Oprah devoted her Monday show to the concept of simple living. It’s good to see mainstream shows discussing this topic, but I had trouble identifying with the examples Oprah illustrated on her show. What do you think?

In general, I have issues with Oprah. On one hand she talks about saving and simplifying one’s life, but on the other hand she has give away shows that feed into the consumer mind-set. It’s annoying and sends mixed messages.

On a positive note, O Magazine featured a few interesting articles about voluntary simplicity. The piece below tells the story of people who have recently downscaled, discusses the history of the voluntary simplicity movement, consumerism and more. It’s a great read!
