First of all…good job unplugging and enjoying your evenings. I actually need to follow suit and set aside “quiet time.”
Secondly, I have to admit…I just *love* the Flip Mino! It’s so nice to have a small device to capture little moments in life. Also…it will be *great* to have more of you (in the video) on here! You’re inspiring me to do it as well.
Keep up the good work! :)

Thanks Aubs. You are a sweetie. :) I need to decide a couple things before I purchase the flip:

1. Is it worth my life energy?
2. Should I forgo the flip and purchase a better camera?
3. Or – do I forgo the camera and flip to save money?

Thanks for your kind words. I’m happy to hear I’ve inspired you. Will you be posting on your blog anytime soon? I miss reading your stuff. Big hugs…

You’re right. It’s definitely something to think about. You have demonstrated what is means to be wise in your purchasing. I really admire that. (And am trying to be more like that! ;) )
I hope to be posting more regularly to my blog here soon. (Another thing I’m trying to work on. One day I’ll get it!) ;)

I’m not here to make your decision any easier. :-)

A nonprofit that was collaborating with my office loaned flip cameras to homeless youth to document their living conditions. Everyone was impressed with the quality of the video, the ease of use and the online support. They figured the cameras were cheap enough that if one broke it wouldn’t be costly, but the cameras withstood the backpack test.

Ohhh dang it Pam! You just made my decision harder. :) Thanks for the thoughts though – such a great ideas! Did the nonprofit post those video’s on the web? I’m sure the short films are very powerful..

I’ve been really impressed with the video quality of the flip, but am leaning toward a camera purchase. :) My hands shake a lot, so if I do purchase a flip I might need a tiny tripod to film with. LOL!

We’ve thought about video cameras too. The Flip is nice, small and takes great video. We have a tiny Canon still camera that does video (I think it’s the SD1000, which was quickly updated to a curvier model, but we love ours).

It is more than enough for our needs, even though it is secondary to the still pictures. The video quality is great for us, but we are not doing HD vids for business or any of that. We prefer the still pictures to video (we’ll get a DSLR at some point), but it’s nice to have both.

I think most people overestimate how much video they will do, especially in a single shot. I don’t know how long we can record on ours, but we’ve not found that limit.

It really comes down to what you want or need. I think it adds a whole new dimension to a lot of blogs, though I do not generally tend to follow those that are ONLY video blogs. Often, I only have time or the tech on hand to read text, so if a blog is all just video posts, I don’t tend to follow. Those that have occasional or regular videos, I will follow if they interest me. But if every blog post is a title and a video, I don’t usually keep up.

It’s not a huge amount of money, and I have always found that cameras are a good buy. Not in a “need” sense, but they can really do much to improve things as far as memories and sharing with others. We don’t buy as many useless souvenirs when we go places, for instance. We take lots of pictures and video, though. Digital makes the cost almost nothing once you buy the equipment. We have so many more pictures now that we don’t have to buy new film all the time, not to mention developing it.

If it was a video game console, I would say waste of money and life-suck. Camera? Worth it.

James – thank you! Vlogging is fun but I would not move toward an all vlog format on RowdyKittens; I love writing too much. I think my needs would be met if I purchased a camera with a video included. That way I can do a little bit of both – lots of photo taking and video’s once in a while. :) I’ll have to check out the SD 1000. Thanks again!
