Okay gang…I have excellent news. L has agreed to participate in the 100 Thing Challenge! I’m shocked because he was not a fan of this idea to begin with…
The Plan
We are both counting up our personal things, asking ourselves what we really need and then donating our extra stuff to the SPCA Thrift Store. After we’ve counted all our personal stuff, we are going to count all the possessions we share in the household.
Crazy?
I know this sounds a little crazy but it will be a good exercise for us. If we are really going to fit into a tiny house and lead a simpler life with less stuff this challenge will force us to purge the unnecessary.
Over at Simpler Living, L pointed out:
I was opposed to possession counting when I first heard of the idea through Dee Williams and the RowdyKitten. I thought it would be irrelevant and symptomatic of OCD, lending as much usefulness as counting lines in a sidewalk
. However after helping RK with her task I realized that the process of becoming more aware of what you have and what you really need is very valuable. Further, I observed that numbers helped us conceptualize our stuff in a way that was non-sentimental. The inventory thus far has given us a rational perspective to better understand our behavior.
Inventory of Stuff
I took a brief inventory of my stuff this weekend. Once my list is complete, I’ll post it on RowdyKittens.
Maybe some of you can help me decide what should go and what should stay in my tiny apartment?

Wow, this is awesome! Good for you! I’ll definitely keep checking back to see how you’re doing on this. A and I have gotten rid of at least 50% of our possessions in the past few months in preparation for small home living, but I still don’t think we’re down low enough.
Thanks for posting your list! I’d love to see what you end up keeping.
I’m excited for you! This project should be a lot of fun. I’ll help you decide what to whittle down on. : )
Cute kitty pictures on the right hand side of your blog.
Thanks @Heather and @Dracenea. I’ll be posting my list sometime next week. We have a big pile of stuff, sitting next to the door, for charity donations. I’m curious to see how many personal items L has collected over the years. LOL.
@Dracenea – thanks for noticing the picture. I just added the link to my photos and Amazon store last night.
Good luck, Tammy! I’m going to blog about this sometime today. Would you want to write a guest post at some point about your goals and progress?
Thanks Naomi. Yes, I’d love to write up a guest post about our progress for the 100 Thing Challenge.
