by Tammy on July 10, 2009

My rowdy partner, Logan, has been all a twitter about people in bike lanes and was mentioned in a post today at Simpler Living. Go check it out peeps. :)

What is your take on this topic? Why do people walk in bike lanes?

Kinda similar, in the neighborhood I live in, people walk in the streets which all have these really nice sidewalks, except that they don’t walk on the side, more like the middle of the street. Its a pet peeve of mine.

Probably the same reason that people bike on sidewalks and crosswalks. Stupidity?

@Jacob – stupidity explains most of the problem. Also, I think most people are unaware of their surroundings.

@Ryan – hmmmm walking in the streets? Really? Is your neighborhood super quiet? I don’t think folks could get away with that in mid-town Sac. Cars fly through the back streets, so most peeps are smart enough to stay on the sidewalks.

It is a small neighborhood for Charlotte NC ONLY 400 house (note my sarcasm) while most neighborhoods around Charlotte are 2000 plus. There aren’t too many cars and its a 35 mph, but its really annoying and dangerous.

What is worse on holidays people walk to neighbors houses for parties and walk back drunk…..at 3am…..in the dark….in the middle of the road. Imagine if someone where to hit a person walking in the road and killed them, that’s man slaughter and you get get 15 years and up for them being stupid!

Tammy your website has some way of getting me on my soap box all the time lol

Late one here. I have done this too (sorry) but then cycling hasn’t really ‘taken off’ as much in London as it has in other cities. It’s probably because cycle lanes are easy to ignore – most people probably don’t even know what they are. It’s just part of the street. If it was sectioned off, I think they’d pay more attention. I guess if cycling was a bigger part of our culture, that would help.
