Katie and Jonathan got me thinking about follower counts, subscribers, my online life and what is really important.
I recently went though my Twitter stream and unfollowed a number of folks. Please don’t be offended by the unfollow. I finally realized that I don’t have the attention span to follow over 800 people and actually build relationships with all of these folks. So I trimmed down my twitter stream and Google Reader to a manageable number.
The best part about social networks is relationship building. By following so many people I felt like I was missing out on that simple concept.
I recently changed my technology routine to reflect my belief in simplicity and to create more time in my life for people and activities that I care deeply about, like….
- Logan; my partner in crime and the love of my life.
- Family and friends.
- My sweet kittens.
- Writing and photography.
- Running, biking and my outdoor life.
- Face to face conversations with my twitter peeps and fellow bloggers.
- Making a difference in the world, professionally and personally.
What do you care about beyond the computer screen?

Rock on! There is more to life than making money from a blog. Do what you love, love what you do. If that means you make money from it, icing on the cake. I blog “for love of the game.” I don’t expect to get paid doing it, but it is a creative outlet that has put me in contact with some of the coolest people I could have imagined. And that’s worth far more than money.
I blog for the love of writing and the friendships I make with others. I make about $10 a month from my google ads, which is great because it pays for my server costs. But I need a little more balance in my life and something had to give. It feels good to reinvent my daily routine. Thanks for reading Katie! Hugs…
