Rent the Smallest House in DC!

by Tammy on October 20, 2009

One of my amazing readers altered me to some fun tiny house news. The smallest house in DC is for rent! There is an open house this Sunday, October 25, from 2PM to 4PM. I wish I could tour this little abode in person…

This tiny but cool house on Capitol Hill is available November 1. It’s a very small studio inside, but it’s a separate house, not a basement like other units its size. Did I mention it’s small? 252 square feet–9.5 feet wide, 28 feet long. It’s the smallest house in DC! But it’s bright and funky, and perfect for someone as cool as you. Continue reading here.

If you want to learn more about this tiny home, be sure to read this Washington Post article and take a tour…

I know! If I lived in D.C., that would be my little home. I love the backyard. :)

The outside looks bigger than in, which is perfect. Not a big fan of being cramped between two other buildings, but if you had to live in the city it would be ideal.

We have been working on the SMALLisSMART HOUSE for some years. WE have built a very upmarket prototype to prove to the world that living in a shipping container is not slum dwelling. It was applauded at Australia’s premier design expo, DESIGNEX. Total area 28.8sq.m. A complete one bedroom house in a 40 ft shipping container, and 2 bedrooms in a 54 foot container. The popular British TV show GRAND DESIGNS is going to feature our DARE HOUSE on the upcoming Australian series. You can find them all on our website http://www.fultonsalomon.com. We have designed a huricane proof house and 6 B & B units for construction in Orlando FL. using 29 shipping containers.

I originally sent in the information about this house for rent and went to tour it today. It is super cute and if my lease were up now, I would absolutely rent it. It looks exactly as it does in the pictures, although there are two closets that aren’t clear from the video. The backyard is wonderful and in DC, we can use outdoor space 7-8 months out of the year, which makes the house much more livable. It is in a lovely old neighborhood, with a large park at the end of the street and many shops and restaurants as well as the subway within a short walk. I am keeping the owner’s contact info on the off chance it’s available when my lease ends.
