Logan's bike 17

Riding to the Market

The Sacramento Tweed Ride was a blast! I even won a set of Knog Frog LED Lights.

I don’t need anymore bike lights. Especially, if I want to keep my personal things under 100 items. So I thought it would be fun to do bike light giveaaway.

If you want the lights, please leave a comment on this post by November 20th. Tell me why you love biking at night.

I’ll announce the winner on the 20th. :)

Nothing beats swooping through the night, the wind parting before me as the silence embraces.

At night I love biking because I can ride far enough away from the city to see the stars more clearly.

At night, the same streets that are filled with people and traffic all day are empty, and the dark, the quiet and the road feels like it belongs to only me.

I love riding at night because I can see the cars better…. to avoid them.

Thanks all for leaving a comment! I love your responses. :) Night time riding is the best. I love the cool air on my face.

I commute to work starting at 5 in the morning. So I mainly do early morning “night riding.” There is something about the empty streets and the whir of the chain against the cog that is hypnotic. I also love seeing who really owns the early morning suburban hours: raccoons (fury ninja’s of the urban landscape).

@Kit – I loved your description of early morning riding. Sometimes, I see little fury ninja’s when I bike to yoga class early in the mornings. :)

I have actually never ridden at night. I’m terrified of getting squashed by a car. And I don’t have any bike lights, which makes the getting squashed more likely I guess. Since it gets dark before 6pm my riding time has gone from more to much much less. This post makes me want to try it, though I might need some powerful lights to compete with the traffic near my apartment. Either way, it’s definitely something I want to try, and after reading the other comments now more than ever!

@Brenda – Give night riding a try. It is so much fun and it’s really beautiful. But getting lights is a must. I don’t want you getting squashed out on the road. Thanks for reading the blog!

I love riding at night because…well I don’t really know if I like it because I’ve never done it…its always been too dark and I worry that people won’t see me. But if I had to guess I would say because its cooler…the Texas sun can be pretty harsh!
