Minimalist Bike Bags

by Tammy on November 18, 2009

The power of the internet is incredible.

We are in the process of selling a few bike bags and I thought this would be hard. But I was wrong. Posting photos of the bags on flickr and on twitter did the trick. Within one hour I sold a set of bags to Car Free with Kids and had a few other folks express interest in the black bags.

Why are we selling such cool bags?

These lovely bags are perfect for grocery shopping and going to the office, but wouldn’t work for bike touring.

Our goal is to downsize our bag collection and own multipurpose items, like Logan’s Pelican Porteur Bag by Swift Industries. It’s awesome for grocery shopping, bike touring and general travel.

Inspiration To Minimize

The Path Less Pedaled recently wrote about Jeff’s approach to minimalist biking and his philosophy inspired us to minimize our excess bike stuff. Less really is more.

Jeff has combined the philosophy of ultra light backpacking with his love of bicycling. The result is a series of rackless bags that have been used to win grueling bicycle adventure races like the Great Divide Race. The philosophy of his system – less is more. The less weight you have, the further and more remote you can travel with less expended energy.

Note. The black bags are still for sale. Contact me if you’re interested.

Not only are we getting rid of the grocery panniers I am also getting rid of an overnight bag and a school book bag. This pelican porteur bag is replacing 4 bags total. Its easy to overpack this multipurpose bag with the roll-top feature. But with a little discipline I have made it manageable to handle. :)
