4 Reasons to Love Fresh Food

by Tammy on December 12, 2009

Sacramento Farmer's Market 4

Eating well doesn't have to be difficult...

I’m participating in The Best of 2009 Blog Challenge. Are you?

Q. New food. You’re now in love with Lebanese food and you didn’t even know what it was in January of this year.

A. I can’t pick one food because I’m in love with so many varieties.

The yummy goodness at the Sacramento Farmer’s Market is my new obsession. The food is local, inexpensive and yummy! We radically changed our eating habits at the beginning of 2009 and it has paid off big time.

How?

1. My waist line is smaller and I’m lighter. (Logan has the fastest metabolism on the planet. So he doesn’t have to worry about weight gain).

2. Feeling good and having more energy has improved my outlook on the world. I’m not a cranky kitten.

3. Food at the market is inexpensive and of high quality.

4. Supporting local farms makes me feel good. I’m not going through a middleman, but handing cash to the grower of goodness.

Growing Food and Justice

by Tammy on April 22, 2009

Eating locally grown food has improved my health, increased my energy level and put more money in my wallet. I’m extremely lucky to have a local farmer’s market in my community because fresh food isn’t available to everyone in the U.S.

It’s inspiring to see organizations, like Growing Food for Justice, helping impoverished communities.

The Growing Food and Justice for All Initiative is a new initiative aimed at dismantling racism and empowering low-income and communities of color through sustainable and local agriculture.

This comprehensive network views dismantling racism as a core principal which brings together social change agents from diverse sectors working to bring about new, healthy and sustainable food systems and supporting and building multicultural leadership in impoverished communities throughout the world.

The vision for this initiative is to establish a powerful network of individuals, organizations and community based entities all working toward a food secure and just world.

Check out their website for more details.
